Title: Airbags!?!?!?!
Post by: catlin_cava on December 18, 2008, 01:36:50 pm
I hope you guys can or will help me with this. I'm parting out with my AAZ and going back to a 2.0L gas. Its costing me more to run it as a diesel then if it was gas. So here is the question. My MK3 doesn't have airbags, but the donor car's got airbags. I'm switching everything over, wiring, cluster, and it comes down to the computer...I'm not transfering the airbags, Will the car give me an error or airbag light? whats going to happen because diesels don't have a computer but some have airbags...I'm lost lol...btw the motor and all the wiring is up for sale :)

I believe the air bag system is completely separate.
As in you can remove all the wiring and the little box that runs them.

Have a Bentley? If not get one and just remove the offending items.

I predict gas will be going back up to $3.50 - $4.50 in the next year and you will be wishing you kept  the diesel. How much are you going to spend on this conversion ? If it was $1,000 that would be about the difference in cost of 800 gallons of diesel, assuming you are paying the 50% higher rate that some have to... That's 40,000 miles of fuel to break even.

The airbag ecm would give the signal to light the idiot lamp , so if it's not installed-no light

If I do the conversion, the guy wants 1000$ for the donor car. However he is a sports car person and I have a Dodge Avenger he wants...so we are doing a square trade. But I have been doubting myself about the Golf. I might keep it as a diesel...I need to locate a set of papers, dash VIN tag, and the Cap thats over the tank in the trunk on a 93-98 Jetta. the donor car is for the states and doesn;t have a title
