Title: Engine needs bored F@#$ What to do now?
Post by: foxracer1 on December 16, 2008, 09:49:50 pm
So my block needs to go .040 over. I have a 1.9 head ready to go on it. I'm low on cash now so i'm stuck on what to do. I thought i was going to be able to get away with just re ringing it. My options as i see them:

1. I could bore it buy pistons and run it.
2. I could buy 1.9 pistons and put them in a 1Z block i have with the tdi bottom end and run the head i have.
3. Put a cheap N/A in it till i find a complete AAZ so i have the serentine setup that i long to have also
4. Put a cheap N/A in it till i find a 1z including elecronics and install this spring when i have more dough.
5. Or #4 but build a mTDI either a 1z or late style TDI

What would you do. I wanted this rebuild to be quick as there is snow flying and only other vehicle is a V8 s-10. Its in pretty good condition so the salt is my main concern.

I voted #1.

Looks like the quickest option to me.

I like #4 but if your trying to get it moving fast using your current parts seems the best route.

The reason I jumped to 4 is thats my goal. I would rather start with a 1.9. I have located a cheap na engine. So i could drive it low boost and low fuel until this spring. I am currently changing jobs so right now i have no income. It's still on the drawing board. I apperciate your guys input.

why not consider sleeving the block??? maybe you should check to see if thats a viable option (might be cheaper than boring/new pistons)

Pistons are in need of replacement too. I'll probably rebuild it and run it in something later down the road.

I guess i really just wanna run a TDI either mTDI or find a wrecked one and rob the electronics.
