Post by: rabbitpower on December 11, 2008, 05:16:25 am
A friend of mine is looking for a set of radio knobs for a 78-79 rabbit am/fm radio . If anyone has an old radio laying around with a good set of knobs please let me know how much you have to have for it. Thanks!

He is looking for the am/fm without cassette. Motorola made them. The project is a restoration so he is trying to keep it stock. I used to have several of these radios but tossed them because I had no use for them.

I think the 78 - 79 diesels came with a Blaupunkt radio.  The newer Rabbit AM/FM Motorolas won't fit the older dash.

In 78 Motorola made one too. You could get either woodgrain for the deluxe or solid black for the base model. The Motorola came hard wired in I believe as the connectors were yet to be added.

Huh, my '78 (RIP) had a monophonic Blaupunkt with connectors and all.

I bought the '79 without a radio, but it had connector plugs for power, ground, and speaker.

The early Blaupunkts are held into the dash by spring clips on a black or woodgrain face plate.  The later US made Rabbits are held in by screws.

The face plates must be common to both the early Blaupunkts and the Motorolas.
