Title: The little wire near the alternator is???
Post by: kibs45 on November 24, 2008, 11:04:22 pm
Thanks for all the help getting my car to run now I am getting into the nitty gritty (all while waiting for my Bentley) my alternator has the standard 3 wire plug as well as one extra wire.  Is the extra wire for the d terminal or the w terminal?  I suspect the w since my car has a shift light?  1982 Audi 4000 1.6 N/A.

Probably for the W terminal. It should be a black with with a single spade terminal.

It feeds power to the upshift relay. At least, that's how it works on a 1981-1984 Rabbit.
