Title: Speedo/Clock Not working

I have a 93 Jetta and the speedo and clock are not working.  Fuses appear to be good.  Digital odo says error and then dashes???  Any ideas.

I just bought a 95 Golf from a friend last night and the speedometer in it only works intermittently (Hit one bump, it works. Hit another it quits). Apparently they're known for having the solder come loose on the back of the instrument cluster.

thanks guys.  Looks like I need a cluster.  Anybody have one with a tach?
