Title: Really quick question
Post by: molgrips on November 18, 2008, 07:31:38 am
What size socket do you need to get the injectors out of a 1.9 AAZ?  And is it standard or some kind of special deep injector socket?

I want to know if I have to stop off at Halfords on the way home...

27mm, very very deep,  very thin internally to clear the fuel return barbs, and slim profile on the outside to clear the injection pump.

I don't think anyone's been able to get a generic deep socket to work without a lot of machining... most people end up buying the Mac or Snap-on tool designed specifically for that purpose.  Many of the deep sockets that work for the 1.6l injectors will not clear the return barbs on the AAZ injectors, as I found out to my disappointment one bank holiday.

I bought a DEEP chrome socket then used my log bit to grind out the top of it so the threaded part of the injector would fit through then I also hogged out inside where the return barbs would hit. Works fine but required modification.

I got a 27mm 1/2 inch drive socket from the pawn shop cause I didn't want to bust up my set.
I cut the drive end off of the socket with a metal chop saw, then added 5 inches of pipe to the mid section. Welded it all up in a vise and I have my own AAZ injector remover for around $5.
The inside diameter of the pipe was just slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the socket so the hose barbs have room to spare.

was that supposed to say 27mm? The sears here in town sucks, very small. I'll have to check the bigger city 30 min away. thanks!
