Post by: the caveman on November 17, 2008, 03:59:47 pm
I have another possiblity of a 97 Jetta TD for parts . Car runs, was t-boned and body is bad anyways. I will part it if i can get enough of it sold. I won't ship a complete motor to the states but can part it to ship. If i can sell the motor, IP , turbo and trans i will buy it. car had 265,000 kms and was very well maintained. thanks

Man i hate UPS.
I got one quote for $70, and another that would be faster but includes brokerage at $180. I would think that i could send it by post for around 60-80 bucks and you may not even have to pay duty.

I would be interested in the alternator and the whole serp belt setup , pulleys, idler, and bracket for my daughters 1.6td (alternator belts last her about 2000 km )

Okay, so I'll be pessimistic and say $90 for shipping, but how much for the head itself from ya? That much again? More? Less?

i've been looking for a transmission... you don't happen to have the code do you? how much would you want for it???  it would be to swap into a mk2, but i have a cable shifter... just need the hydraulic clutch bits as well.  (although i've heard of some interesting ways of just hooking up the master cyl with the original mk2 pedal...)

thanks

Mmm, I think I'm out. With the shipping added in that's $260, bit rich for my blood and idle desire right now. We're teetering on the edge of recession down here, don'tcha know! ;)

I don't even have a spare engine appropriate to put it on, so I can afford to keep bargain hunting for a "core" head to rebuild and port/polish.

I have one that all the valve are  bent. The rest of the head is okay. I cpuld strip it down and i'll sell it for $75 plus the shipping would be alot less also, possibly as little as 50 quattloos

Hey Mr tanquay
I don't know the code . I',m pretty sure it has the oem trans in it though. I don't think it was ever changed for another. And i don't remember which shift linkage it has. What would you offer with/without delivery ? [ i could use and excuse to drive to T.O.]

Hmmm, sounds much more my aims. How badly out of plane is it, if at all?

I do know that before the crank pulley kicked the bucket the compression was good. i had checked it a few months before and they were all close to 400 if not above and no oil in the overflow so no problems with headgasket/head warp. I will check with a straight edge if you want it.

If it won't be too much trouble, yes please. I'm an information junkie, so you'll be feeding my habit. :D
