Title: Clicking
Post by: TD_vento on July 01, 2005, 05:45:51 pm
Need to get an opinion on this clicking noise i get, basically when the car is iddling and I rev it on neutral there is no noise, when im driving and say im doing about 2000rpm and i floor it it slowly start to climb, and a clicking noise can be heard.  I been thinking is the injectors?  Why dont i hear this on iddle but only when the car is moving, i suspected it was a leak in the exhaust, but it all looked ok when i checked.  Do you hear this in your diesel?  Any comments?

thanks

it might be the tappets/lifters, but im puzzled to why the noise appears when the car is on full throttle and accelerating but cant be heard when reving on iddle :?

It does sound like an exhaust leak. A leak right at one of the exhaust port gaskets will get louder under load. Is it a TD or an NA engine?

Its a TD, that is what i initially thought leak in the exhaust system as it only appears under load, im not looking forwards to removing the manifold :x

Obviously diagnosing sounds over t'internet is kinda tricky, could it be a "wrapping" from a big end or main bearing?

clicking sounds like the old audi 5000's...  They always seemed to click at idle.   Turns out it was some exhaust manifold leak problem (bad studs I think...)  but the clicking went away at around 3k rpm.  (less vibrating)
