So,
After a summer of an 1.6 NA converted to TD with VNT15, I have concluded the following things-
-As long as one keeps egt's low, one cannot blow it up. I was unable to go about 800 with an NA pump cranked to the point of not being able to adjust the idle anymore (screw turned up a lot, idle backed down as far as possible).
-Wastegate actuators modified into vane actuators work awesome. Vanes almost shut all the time, vanes open at 10-12 psi.
-Car sounds friggin' awesome.
-Car is quite zippy, even with NA injectors and NA pump.
-Hockey puck breather thing from I believe a gasser works great to keep oil inside the engine.
-Car is quite zippy even without an intercooler.
-Don't use old radiator hose for charge piping; it blows up.
-The little adjuster in the overboost valve quickly falls out if you loosen it a little. One of the bolts that hold the trans onto a vw engine work great to replace it and make it not open anymore.

Overall, vnt15 na is a huge success. I have beat the piss out of the engine, and it still runs awesome. Only a tiny tiny amount of oil in the catch can after an autox, too. Super cheap build, too; $30 for the vnt15 and manifold, $50 for the intake manifold, $30 or so for exhaust parts, $65 for egt gauge and aircraft spruce probe.
It's going to get parked for the winter, very soon. Next year's plans include an intercooler, TD pump, new injectors, and a metal HG when I blow the fiber one.

thats awesome, and it sounds good i watched ur other vids, that turbo really moves

you need a TD pump and have it modifyed and your road there would be too short ! that thing has the potential for way more power then what your showing! dam get a Giles pump since you saved so much on everything else! you can justify spending it now! you can thank me later!
i have a Giles pump and dam glad i spent the money! i wish i would of done it along time ago!

shoot if only you had had studs and an aaz HG
you could double your boost!

 good way to blow the vnt-15, although i've heard of guys spiking to around 30 psi with them
they're not half bad turbos, but you do need to beat on them to clear the vanes.
hamradio, just curious.. does the boost spike if you floor it? like say 20 psi then fall back to 10-12, if you mash the go pedal?

Thanks! No boost spikes, just occasionally creeps up to 12 psi. I am planning on getting a td pump, or putting an LDA on my NA pump. It's leaking out of the cold start area, again. A giles pump is way too much cash for me; it seems like an awesome pump, however. I kind of have a gasser build in the works that I would set aside money for (toying with doing a g60 turbo mk2 golf, completely made from junkyard parts, with a budget of $1500). That or put some money aside to buy a turbo saab 9000 or 9-3. But, for the money I have into the rabbit, it goes like a bat out of hell.
I picked up a saab ng900/9-3 intercooler the other day...it looked like it would be a great fit, but the end tank/piping on it kind of wants to hit the timing belt. :? I was considering making my own end tank for it. I like the design of it.
So, total plans over winter are-
TD pump
Metal HG (my fiber one is leaking coolant down the back of the block after 400 or so miles  )
TD Injectors
Intercooler+piping
15-17 psi on the VNT (I hear the limit of one is about 18 before it's life is severely shortened)
Stiffer rear motor mount
Also, I'm toying with putting a bov on it, just for lolz. I know, it'd be pretty rice to have a bov on a diesel, but it would be *so* damn easy to do with a solenoid and the original upshift light switch.

well i know somebody else that can do a super pump version!
P.M. me if you are interested? about half the cost!
