Title: Pistons for 1.6L
Post by: ShoulderMan on October 26, 2008, 12:48:15 pm
What all options do I have as far as aftermarket Pistons for the 1.6L?

I have seen some with the oil cooling chamber under the crown, but thoes posts were from 5 or more years ago.

I have also herd mixed reviews of some of the cheaper pistons that you can get for $160 a set.

Or Is it better to have them custom made?    worth it?

 Thanks

-Ron

you could get the cheaper ones off prothe's site and get the tops coated with a heat reflective coating, and the skirts with an anti friction coating... all this at LESS than OEM pistons

www.dieselvw.com

the OEM brand is probably cast a bit better, but who knows? there should be a review board on that site so people can give feedback on the different products.  the only thing im really skeptical of on that site, is possibly some gaskets, and the timing belt tensioners.  this is mainly due to a lot of people having very premature failure of the tensioners, destroying their engines (saving $20-40 on a tensioner, but having to spend over $500 for new valves, HG, head bolts, etc)
