anybody have a successful removal of a windshield without breaking/cracking the glass? I need to get my headliner installed into my rabbit. The rabbit I took it out of I just smashed the windshield (it was spidered already) and pulled the good stuff out.

I don't remember, is the mk1 held in by a rubber gasket or is it glued in like the rest?
If glues in. Piano wire and a friend, heat up end of wire to melt it through the glue where ever you can reach. Once through you and your friend saw the glue as you pull the wire back and forth.

MK1's up to 83 or 84 had rubber seals they started glue in about the second or last year of MK1's
it's best to razor knife the old seal and use new rubber because of thier water leaking problem! another words don't reuse the old seal it will leak and cause electrical problems down the road!

The only way I know of takes three people. Two people laying on their backs in the front seats pushing with their feet on the upper corners of the glass as hard as they can, while the 3rd person gets ready to catch.
I'm sure the glass shops have a more sophisticated way.

hmmm... maybe i'll just end up taking into a shop. They should have the rubber for it right?

missed this one... if I cut it, it wouldn't be too hard to do with just one person. anybody know of a good online place to order the seal, or is it easier to just buy from the dealership/glass shop?
