I need a new downpipe - I'm interested in making one - 2.5 or 3 inch and seek a flange that will fit the turbo.
Also, my adventures with a 308 nozzle (bougt in ignorance) in my eco still are proving to be bad for fuel mileage (10% loss after doing various things like fixing air leaks, timing, fuel restrictions and other junk)
Where can I obtain a "closer to stock" bosch or other decent quality nozzle?
What really is "closer to stock" too I might ask
Sources apprecitated...
thanks all...
-
261 would be a better choice! 308 are more for 1.9 if i remember correctly?
other wise what condition is your inj. pump in?

yes, where? and of what quality (i.e.: I'd prefer bosch and dont want chineese made parts at all)
thanks!

I dug out the old nozzles that came out of my car (prior to putting in the 308's - as I noted earlier - in my own ignorance) and I see that they have this number on them:
DNOSD 297
And I really dont know what the car was originally equipped with
People are recommending 261 (or even some other numbers) but I find it difficult to make the choice given that I dont know what was OEM in there and also that I (sadly - in ignorance) spent too much money on bosio 308's under what seems to have been poor advisement from a vendor.
What the heck do these numbers really mean? 261 - 297 - 308 ?
Its an eco diesel so it does have a turbo but it does not have the boost enrichment stuff on it (spaceships or whatever that stuff is called)
I went down this murky path cause I just bought the car and presumed the nozzels to be old oem stuff - aeems that isnt the case?
And I hesitate to throw more money to rebuy and redo the nozzles unless I'm more well versed in what the heck I'm doing (I'd presume the new ones should again be lapped in and popped?)
Frustrated - me!

I just got mine in last night guys.
So far I like them, nice smooth idle.
They sure don't deliver the amount of fuel the Big Ass injectors do. I actually had to turn the fuel screw in a full turn to get it back to where it was.
Going to have to get some miles on them before I can report to performance and mileage.
-
did you get any fuel mileage numbers yet?
I'm still hangin out on deciding if I should go back to 297, go with 261 or stick with the 308s.
thanks!
-
I'm really liking the 261's.
I'm hanging around 45mpg. I have to driver really nice to get there but it will. My average is 43mpg.
I don't drive nice at all. 3000-3500rpm is where I travel it seems and I take off fast every time. I love the smoke and sound of the turbo.
By em!
-
Dan, do you know what mileage you got before and what number nozzles were in the car?
thanks!

this otta be interesting ?

I was running my Big Ass injectors (CASE TIPS) and was getting 44 pretty consistently driving like a grandma.
On the original build I was running complete injectors from Prothe.
I had sent those to Duane to have the pop off reset and he told me they were nasty junk.
This could be a couple things, either they were just junk and/or I had bad heat shields and they got baked.
I don't know which and I'm not going to guess.
Either is a possibility I suppose. I used them for a tad over 15000 miles.
I'm REALLY hoping for longer lasting tips this time around.
Another note to add it when I switched to the new tips I also just built a new 10mm pump and installed it as well. So the new injectors didn't get much time on the old pump for a comparison.

Duane, I've seen where you do rebuilding...
how close do you match the opening pressure? The "service" that did my current set has 2 set at 155 and 2 set at 161.
Also, if I go looking for a set of used nozzle bodies - does it matter if they are the 130 (whatever nonturbo was) or the 155 bar? Is the spring inside all the same and just shimmed differently or are there 2 different springs?
If I'm gonna switch again, I'd like to have a swappable set of nozzles to minimize downtime
Thanks!

i try and get them as close as i could 5psi. up or down! 161 is about 100psi stronger then 155! so thats not set right!
you can use either turbo or non turbo to set at 155bar just make sure your 4 that you use are the same and set at the same pressure!
i did 130bar and set them for 160bar for dillinger here on the forum!
and he's happy with them!

Duane set mine @ 165 bar as well so he can do what you need.
-
Great - so much for my attempts at using a so-called professional diesel service.
I guess I'll start looking for a set of nozzle bodies so I can put nozzle of my choice in.
Anyone have any collecting dust they want to part with?
-
i have 4 nice N/A bodies 8bucks a piece + ship!
Duane
-
How about I buy a set of 297 nozzles from the guy you directed us to for the group buy and you set them up for me? Cost?
Or - if you have nozzles already - how much to build me a set using those bodies?
(I'm still doing coin toss on 261 vs. the stock 297 - I cant make a sound decision cause I just dont know enough)
Should we take this offline?
Thanks!
-
You will like the 261's
-
i tell you what! i'll give you a deal 100bucks for the bodies and my service!
have Sean send the nozzels of your choice to me!
i recommend 261's but it's up to you? also send 10bucks for shipping back to you!
well let me know! this is a good time for me to do it because i'm laid off from work and got plenty of time!

Duane, I just bought 261s off of Sean. they are being shipped your way with a set of heat shields that I'll need. How do I pay you - (check, paypal, ????)
set them to 155 (stock stuff I guess) unless you have preferences that you lean towards for pressures.
PM me if you prefer it for contact info?
thanks!
-
Duane - followup - Sean is suggesting 157 Bar.
thanks!
