Title: Compression Test

I know its probably been asked before so I apoligize in advance. I want to do a compression test on my MTDI and I dont know what to expect or what is required as a recomended min.

Thanks in advance (its the early TDI and has around 30k on the engine)

No One?? what are the compression test numbers for an IDI then?? what is the 1.9 IDI compression ratio? if they are close then I would expect the compression test numbers to be close.

On mine, I got 400 not too long after the rebuild. I think I had put a 3 notch gasket in to be on the safe side although a 2 was what was on it before. I had slight kiss marks on the pistons, but they were probably from when my IP bracket was loose.

In  the Bentley they say 360-450 new , 276 is the bottom limit and no more than 75 lbs between high & low. But i do remember testing TDI's that had almost 500 lbs.

even with bad compression you can still get them to fire up... just need some brake parts cleaner  :lol: the high compression is mainly for cold starting.  you'll get some smoke if the compression is bad enough though.

My idi was @ 110 110 170 120 and it ran fine if you could get it started  :shock:
