is it a bad thing to reuse the stock rod studs in a 1.6, they're not stretch are they? How much are the ARP rod studs?

I researched this once and I can't remember where I got the specs, but I remember that for my 1.6 the stock rod bolts were reusable up to 6 times and were not a stretch bolt. VW being VW there were probably everything used so I would do some research yourself. ARP rod bolts part number Con Rod bolts 1.6 and 1.7......104-6002 are approx. 103.00

Thanks, it appears that some are stretch, but 1.6's not.
I may get some just for peace of mind, I know they have been tightened atleast a few times. thanks for the link.

It depends what bolts you have. Some are stretch, some are not. The 1.8 8v gas bentley manual has a picture of the differences between stretch and non-stretch. Stretch ones are necked down along the length that passes through the rod. Later model or replacement OEM bolts are stretch. Some aftermarket suppliers sell the 1.8 8v bolts as 1.6diesel bolts. They are WRONG!!
