I've got to make room. I already lised my 1.7 KY that i just took out of my transporter. Guaranteed good compression and has piston oilers! this is the heavy duty version of a 1.6 l made for the german government . Same stroke but pistons from a 1.9l . Selling without IP or injectors. Perfect canidate for turbocharging. Very strong runner, just not enough for a 4000 lbs truck.
$1000 CND or reasonable OBO+shipping/handling

if you close you'll see the pistons squiters[/img]

Just for gits and shiggles, what would shipping be to zip 54016?
-
I think it may not too much. My partner has a relative in the trucking business. We'll find out later -maybe 300-400 ...Certainly not gonna send it UPS
-
is there any way you can post pics.? i always wanted to see one! does it look like a normal 1.6 motor?
thanks Duane

I can take some pics as i have to bring my camera in for another project i have to document. I will even pull the pan to show the piston squiters.
I was thinking that if someone wanted just the short block as that's the real difference between it and a 1.6.
-
Oh and saurkraut i never heard back for the brokerage amount but i can get it shipped for 300-450 plus brokerage.

that would be great love to see that thing inside and out!

I wonder if the heads prechambers the same size?
It seems like the bigger pistons would shove more air into that little space.
-
I'm also curious to see what the chambers look like, but i'm not going to open it unless someone takes just the short block etc. As far as i know the head is the same as a 1.6 na. I hope to make time tomorrow to take off the pan and take pics of the piston oilers.
-
Vag cat list the same head for 1.7 KY and 1.6 JX but not same as 1.6 na.
-
Marc,
Do you know if it is possible to bore the 1.6TD cylinders out to accommodate 1.9TD pistons or would that leave cylinder walls too thin? What are you planing on putting in your 4,000 lb truck - TDI?
-
I'm not sure about boring out a 1.6 although that cetainly seems what my 1.7 is. Others on this site would know more about it.
I now have a 1.9 na what used to be an industrial engine .low milage, never turned more than 3000 rpms , never outsite in the elements, and the price was right.
-
if only the head is the same, would the mounting points be different than the 1.6l? how difficult would this be to drop in from a 1.6l engine bay? ALso, not that i doubt you, but what exactly does "good compression gauranteed" mean :D If it was not so far i would consider it but i am sure shipping to AZ would be a monster bill.
-
see thats why cavy should post pics so we have documentation of a 1.7 even if he took pics. next to a 1.6 block for comparison would be great!
because iv's never seen one!

Other than the 1.7 D stamp on the back ,it looks like a 1.6. The 1.9 i replaced it with bolted up perfectly. And since the head is the same, the block lenght has to be also. Pics coming up in a few minutes!

" ALso, not that i doubt you, but what exactly does "good compression gauranteed" mean"
TD bunny, i realize you have to take my word on it , but it came out of my truck which now only has 80,000 kms. And i DO know they are good because except when it was -20 o C it would fire up instantly and even then it would start and rough idle for maybe 10 seconds
-
how much would it cost to ship to 85712? I am already looking at having to rebuild my 1.6TD and this might be a fun alternative for my rabbit.
-
I quoted a estimate for someone to wisconsin. To AZ i would think about 450- 500 plus 140 brokerage.
-
SOLD! well I guess my 83 TD rabbit wont be original anymore but will still have a unique engine to say the least.

yeah I am pretty excited myself. I probably wont do a full rebuild on the 1.7 with money being a little strapped right now but when i add on the Giles pump, GPOPSHOP perf rebuilt turbo, DP, and long list of upgrades I have done along the way the car should be a blast to get going again. I really need to start getting some pictures up of my car as I have put a lot of time into getting it mechanically solid.
