Title: Vanagon conversion Need help with bolts.
Post by: allsierra123 on October 06, 2008, 10:05:49 am
Ok  my conversion parts did not come with any fasteners. So I need to figure out the sizes of bolts I need. The biggest ones I am having trouble with Is the Oil pickup tube. The guy that sold said swap the aaz tube for what he sent. The trouble is what he sent the tube doesnt seperate from the pump. Its all one piece so I tried to swap the pump and my bolts are too long. I went to fastenal they dont have the exact size either the shaft is either to thick or either too long or short. Anyone have any suggestions.

Also need to know what size the bolts are that attatch the aluminum brackets to the block as well as the carrier bars to the frame. And the oil filler tube to the oil pan. and the ones that go through the motor mounts.

Thanks.

The lid is the portion that has the spacer on it. The pump bases are identical. The lid is where the difference is. The new one has some sort of spacer built into it to accommodate the longer bolts.

I called the guy he said shim it with something. Any better ideas. Im in an area that has no clue what to do about metric bolts. Even fastenal doesnt stock them here and wants a minimum of 50 pcs to order each size. Home depot maybe?

Let me know what you need. If it is the same as a 1.6 mechanical turbo block let me know and I can measure the oil pump bolts as mine is out right now. I work at an industrial supply house and have used many of our fasteners to do VW projects...If it is a 10.00 order I can sell any amount down to 1 peice, just the minimum of 10.00. I could ship it to you for the actual cost. We stock TONS of metric. I also have some, not much, very little, etc., stainless steel and phosphor bronze in metric. Those are mainly socket heads, but I like the stainless stuff for corrosion etc. Just don't use it with an impact. I will send you a pm now that I think about it.

I think it was from the 1.6 It should be around 110 mm.I dont mind paying $10 for those to get them right.
