Title: aquiring used set of 1.9 injectors, who to rebuild them, cost?
Post by: James8485 on September 19, 2008, 06:18:30 am
i am waiting on a set of 1.9TD injectors a gentleman is supose to be sending me and says there are 200 000 on them, well i think mine are getting worse as idle will hang them only way to get it to come down is to let out clutch alittle in first to force it down, it is intermitten sometimes it doens hang it just doesnt come down to the normal 900RPM where its set at it will just idle at 1100 so im assuming injectors, pump was rebuilt and only got 25000 on it

so hopfuly when and if i recieve them im thinkin i should just have them rebuilt, good idea/bad idea???? just run them????
whats the cost in rebuilding them?

never done injectors before so what the best way to get them out, have heard of people cracking the casting (mechanic told me this) trying to get them out????????

information bout this would be great, thanks in advance

Best way to remove them without breaking the head is with a air impact wrench.

Send them to Giles to get rebuilt, I wouldn't run them until you confirm they are good to go.

When you are removing the injectors, you want to push, and not pull on them. Impacts do work well, but I prefer a breaker bar. Work them back and forth. You will need new heatshields. Giles has the equipment to test both opening pressures. It does sound like an injector problem, or a clogged intake/air filter. Do you have EGR?

previous owner broke the injector boss on my head by pulling on the breaker bar undoing them and had it tig'd back together. PUSH them and back them out i'd say 50% of the motion.

Also a little side note. Be careful of the fuel return nozzle thingies (the two on the sides on the tops). if you bend them too many times (or at all really) they snap off and you need to replace the top pieces and re-shim and lapp augh its a mess. get them as close inwards as you can while still being able to put the rubber lines back on so they dont have to get knocked about with the socket.

i'm pretty sure a '97 golf would have an EGR setup... not 100% sure but confident.  sometimes EGR can stick open, and give you really bad idle problems, and even stalling.

looks like a can attached to the exhaust with a black vacuum line going to it.  theres a part that looks like polished nickel that goes from the exhaust to the intake.  should be very easy to spot.

um...  did you use a 1.6 exhaust manifold?  then you should be okay from there, but you also need to block off the egr port on the intake manifold, otherwise you'll lose boost pressure from there or even suck in dirt from the outside.  unless the vacuum controlled valve can hold properly... (but it will open when the engine is cold if left hooked up to its vacuum supply)

ya i used the 1.6 exhaust mani but that line you talking about was attatched to the turbo there was a nipple on the wasegate that it fit on to but there is nothing like that on the K24, u say theres a hole in the intake mani as well......i have it off the car to tap for my EGT gauge and didnt see any hole or anything should i just plug that line....its just sittin in there now......

it won't seem like a hole because the EGR lines are hooked up into the intake (some guys just unbolt it and bolt on a block off plate.)  your intake should be pretty dirty if your motor has EGR.

well i went out there to look and there is like a sensor thing about 1 1/2 high and its kinda round and yes there are 2 vaccum line out from it an in and an out im assuming but anyways what i did, you guys can tell me good or bad

i took it all out, left the clip thing hangin but one end used to plug into the wastgate if i remeber correctly and the other end into this "T" that when the motor was running has a vaccum i put my finger over and you could feel the sucking so i just put a peiace of metal and metal stuck there with the suction and i wraped it in duc tape to hold it on there

idle didnt change any when putting my finger on and off the T but i guess there not a sensor there anymore to register that!

is this what i should have done???

You need hosting. I use www.photobucket.com it`s free.

Then copy the [img*] [/img*] link to your post.

It will make more sense once you upload a picture to your photobucket account

There is quite a bit or things out of the ordinary on your car.

Pictures 1-3: Where's the rust?

Picture 4: Looks like you have a boost gauge. How much boost are you running?

Picture 5: Looks like a bleed off valve, but I could easily be wrong

Picture 6: The plug on the hose is a little heater, it's hanging by the fuel hoses that you have pictured later on

Picture 7: Looks like you are missing a bolt on the downpipe

Picture 8: There is suppose to be a vacuum hose that hooked up under where the duct tape is. Most likely to control your fast idle

Picture 9: Throttle cable hooks in there (I think)

Picture 10: That's the heater wire I was talking about earlier

Picture 11: No idea, can you get a better picture? Is it hooked up?

Picture 12: Is that vacuum hose just laying there open?

Picutre 13: looks normal

Picture 14: I belieive that is the fast idle control

Picture 15: Your pump is missing some pieces. There is a switch twist tied to the throttle cable, it's suppose to be ontop of the pump on the left side. You are also suppose to see a vacuum pod on the top of the pump. If you look on the back of the pump, do you see a rod conencting to levers?

Picture 16: Looks like a custom drain line

Picture 17: Can't tell

You don't have an EGR, and if you didn't swap intake manifolds you never had one.

there alittle rust on the rockers and on the back left quarter pannel, not much though! hey that switch thing that where talking about that goes on top of the IP i though for that pump mod you where supost to take it off and leave it hangin??? and for the DP it looks like it missin a nolt but thats the stock K03 DP and thers a plate inbetween there so bolt is under and in where it looks like its missin, it there though!!! and picture (8) you said ther is supost to be a vaccum hose there.....well when i had the K03 there was a nipple thing on the wastegate  that on end went into that "heater thing you called it" and the other to that "t" where the duct tape is but since there is no nipple thing on the K24 wastegate i have no where to plug it into........even when i put my finger over it and take it off no change in idle. oil drain line is high temp hydrolic line. as for boost i run around 20PSI fuel turned up alittle but i have my 1.6TD pin like on the least steep side as when i put it to more i smoke like a bandit just driving around goes away when i hit boost though so thats where im thinkin injectors are not working properly as there are around 350 000 on there
well thats my stock intake mani from my K03 setup so i guess i never had one!i am hoping my idle prob is my injectors but as soon as i receicve these used ones ill be sending them to Giles to get done

that vaccum hose jsut laying there, i was just showing you where it did go before i took itoff as the other end had no where to plug into  so i figured it was useless

forgot to say.....20PSI to much??

my EGT only hits 1400 but thats only if im really on it for along time but highway doing 120KM/H its like 500

hey should i be able to go steeper on that 1.6TD pin i got in my pump without smokin like a bugger in around town driving ???
