im planning on changing out my exhaust tommorow. but i lent my bentley to my friend for his 1.6 rebuild project. can the exhaust mani be removed while in the car. and can i install the the new mani in its place without much difficulty?

I don't know about "without much difficulty" but it can be done..
Shouldn't be to bad really.
Good luck.

It shouldn't be too hard. All of the bolts holding it on are obvious. No really hidden ones. 8 holding it onto the block and a few smaller ones holding little bits on IIRC.
Use liquid wrench or wd40 if they are rusted like mine are.

it will be easier to remove the intake manifold first to get clear access to #2 & #3 exhaust manifold top bolt, otherwise it will be tricky getting a straight shot at those manifold nuts, WD-40 sometimes makes removal a breeze.
yes the exhaust manifold can be removed while it the car.
