I asked if the 1.8 turbo(99) could be used on a 1.6TD. Everyone said no! How about on a 1.9TDI?
Thanks
-
I would copy-paste all the answers from the other topic here.
bolt pattern doesn't match
-
Im sure you could make an adapter.A piece of metal with both sets of bolt holes on it.Is that turbo big?whats the a/r
-
I can get a 1.8 turbo cheap but I know the manifold won't fit. It(turbo) looks to be close to the same size as the one on the 1.9TDI.
-
you can definitely make the 1.8T turbo fit.
the problem is that it is designed to spool up much later in the rpm range. the driveability will be garbage in comparison to a K03 designed for a diesel.
-
Thats a real shame there are several of the 1.8s at the pick and pull yard. But ofcourse no other turbos! I have seen turbos on some Volvo models which turbos are those? Adapt to VW?
Thanks

;) stock 1.8t turbo isn't that big. Stock 1.6/1.9td is very small

The 1.8T would be poor compared to a small VNT, but none of the WG tdi/td cars i've had (2 AHU's, 1 GTD and 1 1.6TD) have had decent turbo response, the GTD had nothing below 2000rpm, and the 1.6TD basically had nothing at all. The 1.8T i had though got going at 1500rpm, so I would probably hope for similar-ish spool as the K14 and better than T3/K24, providing you have lots of fuel
-
there's just need to rev engine a bit higher and I don't see any problem with using such a small WG turbocharger in daily use car.
-
well then go right ahead and use one. and post back your results.
all i'm trying to say is that diesel turbo's are built differently. if you actually like the way the gasser turbo behaves, then good for you.
i would imagine the 1.8T turbo's to definitely spool quicker than say the k24/T3, but the diesel K03 will outperform it, as it is diesel specific.
1.8T turbo's are pretty cheap and plentiful, and i imagine that to be the only driving force in trying to install one in a diesel application. this just isn't a good enough reason for me.

that turbo is nice and small right??? why don't you go searching on TDIclub for some reviews of it. that turbo is bashed pretty hard. mainly because it isn't quite bolt on, but the driveability is very noticeable from the smaller turbo it came with. perhaps the chinese didn't have the right A/R ratio's for the diesels?? could this possibly be a turbo built for gasser applications??? you be the judge.

read this thread and you'll understand why putting a gasser turbo on a diesel just isn't a good idea.

I wouldn't say that 2" wheels is small turbo. I don't know what chineese crap is it but some k04 were on 1.8t S3 225hp.
I said that stock, small k03 from stock 150bhp 1.8t 20v wouldn't be overkill on 1.6/1.9 diesel if you use it according to it's compressor map (don't push 30psi ;) ).
ps. I would never put any chineese turbo on my own car. Maybe I'll try this one soon and let you know about results ;)

hx 25 zaprzal?whats the inducer Size?
My big compound turbo setup uses turbos that are commonly found on stock or modded 4 cyl gassers. They produce 50 psi @ 4800 rpm.I might add that they are completely useless for daily driving though
