Title: Hub/bearing size for diesel the same as a gasser?
Post by: 85gti on September 10, 2008, 05:24:23 am
Is it the same as my 8v gasser?  I know the axles are different but what about the cv joint and hub size?  Thanks.

Well the hub at the axle should be the same as in 100mm/ 90mm.

And I think I used gasser bearing on the hubs.

Is that what you need to know?

Oh ya, I used mk3 hubs/knuckles when I did my 11" brake conversion and used hte same axles.

A quick and easy way to determine answers to questions like this is to simply go to auto parts websites, like Autohausarizona. So, many answers are at you fingertips...as long as you have electricity to run that computer!

Plug in the years of car you are interested in finding your info on. Compare the results and parts numbers for interchangability.
Your question as stated is more complex than you realize.

Yes, many of the diesel and gas cv joints and hubs and axles are the same. Some are not.
Much of the parts can be interchanged. Some can not.

VW started using larger CV joints on many cars in '87 on. I have been able to run a lot of recycled cv joints out of '85 and '86 gas cars and vice-versa. I think many or most of the Digifant cars ran the larger cv joints...at least on the ones which I have parted out.

You can always change the transmission output flanges and hubs if you want to run the larger cv joints.

Thanks guys.  I am going to find a new bearing as we speak.  Cheers!
