I think I know the fate of my 1.6 NA ('81 Caddy), but just to hear a second opinion, what do you guys think? Squirting some oil in the cylinders and rechecking brought the pressure up quite a bit...
Without w/o oil
CYL 1 80
CYL 2 180
CYL 3 180
CYL 4 180
With oil
CYL 1 150
CYL 2 270
CYL 3 330
CYL 4 290
What do you think, is it completely hopeless? I think this is the result of the previous owner using ether...

Ether hammers rings. You lose compression. The more compression you lose, the more ether you use. Eventually a precombustion chamber jumps ship. Show's over.

I bought the car in this condition, kid I bought it from said the IP needed to be primed and it should run. I didn't know much about diesels then, good learning lesson I guess. The empty cans of ether in the back seat should have been the 'sign' to walk away!
I dont have a title for it either, so this test just determined its fate, the cutting torch...
Car is complete and in really decent shape. If anybody needs any parts let me know.

If it's not something you need to drive daily put some rings in it.
It's not to tough and the results could get it back up to par..

Don't cut it up!! Caddys are a rare and dying breed.
I'm sure someone will buy it for what you paid (maybe)

Ya, have lots of patience and run a title search. Many guys out here would kill to have one of these pickups.
That's why I sold mine...couldn't afford to keep it at THAT price!!!!

Oops... I have my nomenclature screwed up. I thought all Rabbit's were considered Caddy's, not just the truck. So I stand corrected, the car im going to part out is a regular '81 2 door Rabbit sedan...
Forgot to mention the car has no title, which is why its going to the scrap yard in lieu of selling it as one piece.

If it's solid it is still worth getting a title for and saving/selling.
Not such a big deal if you do cut it up though.

if you do scrap it, make sure that you cut out the front strut pillars :lol: as a lot of guys with rusted out caddy's use them to fix their rusted out ones.

Tecnically, they're not the same. The Caddy uses a reinforcement panel on the sides (like a Cabrioelet uses). You can use them, but the'll lack the reinforcement panel.
