Title: No start on 92 1.6L TD
Post by: Super T on September 08, 2008, 07:14:27 pm
This car is totally new to me, I've owned it for 3 days and it's my first diesel but my 4th VW.

I went to start it up today but it wouldn't go. I have no freakin clue what to look for. Engine cranks but doesn't start. I need someone to point me in the right direction.

Most likely cause is glow plugs.  Check for power to the bus bar.  If you have that, the plugs themselves may be bad.  Mine failed overnight, replaced all 4 (3 were bad) and car started great.

Yep, and look at the glow plug fuse.

Also check for air in the fuel line from the filter to the injection pump.

Turned out to be terrible PO repair in glowplug wiring he had spliced in thin wire with small fuse. I fixed it up and works great now.
