Hi,
What do you need to put the K24 turbo from another 1.6td into my ECOdiesel (1V). Is it plain bolt on? (I don't feel comfortable boosting more than 15psi with the stock k14 turbo).
I am offcourse going to install a real TD pump if I change the turbo.
It's a '92
-
i don't think you'll like the K24... it takes forever to spool up :(
The K14 spools so quickly :D
-
Yeah, spooling is great. But what would be a reasonable max boost for the k14? Which pumps would fit? I want a pump with the LDA.
-
good question. I'm guessing a good K14 should be able to produce 15 psi since the big K24 will make 20 psi or more.
as for the pumps, a 1990 should fit. Does your injection pump have the line going from the compressor housing to the top of the injection pump? I've never seen an eco diesel pic b4
-
There is no LDA device on the pump, and therefore no line from the compressor housing.

I think the K14 represents the best compromise in turbo size. The K03 is a bit small but will sustain 17 psi on a 1.9TD for a good long time. The 1Z TDI also produces 16-17 psi using a K03. The K14 is huge in comparison to the K03, I would expect it to be capable of 20psi or so reliably. The K24 can make bigger boost but as others have mentioned it takes months to spin up... I'd stick with the K14 and get an LDA equipped pump from a 1.6TD or better yet a 1.9TD. I think you'll be more than satisfied.
-
Can an LDA be installed on an existing ECODiesel pump? If so, where could I source one?
-
^ yes. not sure... if the junk yard had a good one that would be a score.
-
well my '86 TD got wrecked, and had I known how to remove the LDA I would have... (worked great up until someone turned right in front of me...)
if you're in the oshawa area (durham region). It would have been towed to a wrecker nearby! Gone since June 1st.

I have been looking into this for my ECO. Yes you can do it, but down here you can't find the LDA's to install yourself. I checked with Giles and he will do it. Also looked at another ECO with the LDA installed by Giles. Looks like good work.

I've sendt Giles a mail about building a pump for me, but waiting for reply. Seems like he is the cheapest choice although I have to pay a lot in freight because I live in Norway. :( Another thing is that I use my ECO daily, so sending the pump from my car is not an option. Have to find a used pump either here in Norway (expencive), from Germany (cheaper) or even better, one in Canada (saves on shipping). Don't think there is a TD pump modding specialist here in Norway....
-
Giles did my ECO pump and added the LDA. So far I have 600 miles/965k on the engine and my new refreshed pump and it is great. More power than before that is for sure. I would recommend having it done.

I also have a question...I am planning to rebuild my stock turbo (1V code) K14...But, i am in dilema..Should i rebuild it or buy a new one, for example Garrett turbo, or take o different used turbo and rebuild it...I don't plan to get a new fuel pump, because i have to pass an ECO test when i register my car every year..So i don't think that putting an LDA would make the picture better (for the ECO test)....
With that situation I wanna take out as much as I can out of turbo, like some 22-26 PSI, so I don't know if the stock turbo can handle that much pressure...I will of course make new 2.5" downpipe, and put a metal (probably copper) headgasket, maybe make a 1.7L engine out of it...
Wich turbo will be able to make up to 26 PSI safely, and still keap early spooling...

If you aren't going to install an LDA equipped pump, all the boost in the world will not increase the power one bit. In fact, you will probably loose a bit of power due to pumping loss.
Boost alone will not increase the power of a diesel, power comes from fueling and you need an LDA to get it without horrible off-boost smoke.

Alcaid, just look for a GTD pump from within Europe. Good for 80 hp with an intercooler.

I had my K14 rebuilt, it was in bad shape, serious carbon build up in the bearing areas. Anyway, it responds much better and now I can actually hear the whine. It cost me to have it done but I feel better, As for boost the most I can get out of it now is 10psi, I tried to adjust it but must not have turned the adjustment screw enough because it didn't change any. It does spool up quick that is for sure. I pretty much have a new system, rebuilt engine, pump by Giles, and turbo. Hopefully it will last me a long time.

Yes, it has great response, i can also hear the wine, but she starts to make noise like metal marbels in metal box (I don't know which expression to use to describe it)..I guess the bearing is about to go..
I was planning to put an IC unit, but i dont know were..I read , some guy placed it horizontaly, and put a squirl cage blower on it...I don't know how to translate that, what is that and how does it look like..can anyone help?..
