For a small fee, I would meet most buyers half-way.

I made the road trip from Little Falls to NC about 20 years ago and it took forever. Nice car. Wish you were closer.

I have a brother in northern Georgia I could visit as part of a delivery. I also have relatives in Texas.

Augh, it's even not-a-slushbox! Makes me wish I had the money to spend, but alas, I do not. :(
Good luck with the sale!

Ya, I feel confident you could find a buyer out here in Rapid City, SD. Probably my pal. He has a list of people who want Quantums and Rabbits and such. How far do the "fives" go on fuel???

How does the TD+ 5 speed compair to the original gas motor power wise?
How many miles since it was re-ringed? How is its oil consumption?

I usually got 32-34 mpg highway, and about 28 mpg city. It has only been about 150 miles since I put this engine together. Hard to tell oil consumption, but it doesn't seem bad. The photo of the engine with the blue valve cover is from my 5000 Turbo Diesel Quattro. A photo of this engine can be found here: http://www.audifans.com/marketplace/show.php?table=pm_audifans_Cars&id=3646

How's the power?
Can the car be viewed / test driven?

That thing is still pending, but I've since moved accross the country and don't have it here to work on :( I think I may pass it on to my friend for a smoking deal since it would be cheaper to do that then ship it from NS to Ontario. Grrr.

How's the power?
Can the car be viewed / test driven?.
The power is fair, way better than the na this car orriginally came with. I do have oversize wheels and tires to make up for the gear ratios of the auto vs. manual transmission. Before I put them on I could squak the tires in second and third gears. If you want to come up and test drive, just give me a days notice so I'll be around. I do carry liability insurance.

So let me get this straight ... you have a turbo diesel quattro?! If so, I can say with all honesty, you are the subject of jealousy and envy of both myself and many others on this forum!
I see you used a turbo gas 5-cylinder intake ... now I know this works! Was the diesel engine a factory turbo diesel, or a N/A you converted?
What about the transmission? How is the gear ratio using the gas trans with the diesel engine?
Thanks for the pictures and information!
-
The first time I put the Quattro diesel engine together (neither of these engines was ever NA, bothe were "DE"), I used the gas intake to hook up to the Michellin Man intercooler hose. The photo shows the diesel intake with a modified piece off the front of the gas intake. The diesel manifolds had no extra ports to plug. The Quattro transmission gear ratio is a lot better for the diesel engine. Final drive is a 3.89, and 5th gear is .73. The 1980 non Quattro transmission has a final drive of 4.78 with a 5th gear ratio of .68. That's why I put oversized wheels and tires on the 1980 (215-75-15). This is 10% greater. If someone wants the Quattro Diesel, I'm open to offers.

the power is fair but you can squeak the tires in second and third gear? is that like dumping the clutch at 4000 rpm?
-
No, the tires were a little on the bald side, and were smaller diameter than these. We would have to do a quick shift while the turbo was still spooled up, but I'm sure the engine wasn't turning more than 1200 rpm. Here are all the gear ratios of the original diesel NA transmission:

WOW!! Nice!!
I owned that exact car 20 years ago, practically indestructible... I miss it.
In 1987 I bought a pair of 81 Audi 5000s from an estate for $2000 each, a White NA (a bit sluggish) Diesel and a Metallic Gray Gas Automatic. My wife (before we were married) drove the gasser I drove the Diesel. I wish I could get the wife to drive stick. Both cars were great we loved them, every Audi I owned after that was horrible, finally a 1990 200 Quattro finally put me off Audis altogether.
Good Luck with the sale.

My wife had a minor fender-bender in the 1980 a few years ago. Someone took a turn in front of her a little too sharp. That car had both passenger doors crumpled so they were unusable. The Audi suffered a broken headlight liner, and some chipped paint, but no dents at all. It is like driving a tank.

I hit head on with an Echo in my 86 4000Q, her Echo had the frame twisted to the tune of $3000 (my poor bank), and I lucked out and found a donor Coupe GT for the head lights and grill, do I ever miss that car!
