Title: cruise control. worth fixing?
Post by: jtanguay on June 04, 2005, 11:11:08 am
Like the name says.   '92 jetta TD, engine is not eco.  Could the cruise have been disconnected when changing the engine from eco to regular 1.6 TD?

Having cruise would be nice, but if its a pain to fix then forget it.

Any help appreciated!  Thanks!

there's quite a bit to it actually.  There's a pump under the brake booster that provides pressure for the cruise control lever that's attached to the injection pump.  There's also a sensor on the speedometer, a couple of switches for the pedals, and a computer unit under the passenger side dash board.  I just took my non-working cruise control components out because the switches on the pedals were all rusty and I had already changed the speedometer so that sensor was no longer there.  Depends what condition yours is in.  It might be worth restoring.  Might not.

It may be easier to fit an Audiovox add-on cruise control. It may be able to even use the origional turnsignal post switches. I love mine, it works great.

Yep, I've done this to three cars over the years and it worked really well each time.  :D
