Title: Oil at the boost gauge
Post by: akrallysport on August 29, 2008, 10:10:19 am
I just beginning to install switches for driving and fog lights on my custom center console only to notice my boost gauge connection was leaking my favorite synthetic oil...

Details:
- AAZ (stock w/K03 and A/C)
- 245 000 kms
- Due for a timing belt soooooon
- minimal oil consumption since valve cover gasket was replaced
- smokes only on full boost at full 'throttle' at higher revs... dark grey to black
- Idles at 1050rpm, but sometimes it decides to idle at 1150 after driving around with it.

Could it be that it's just mounted so low in the console that it's draining down to the boost gauge (been thinking of installing A-pillar pod to move it up) or am I looking at a turbo rebuild? I've changed the PCV hoping that it would solve the oil in the intake boot; maybe I should run a breather and catch can and maybe that will solve it? How much oil is too much?

Need your opinions.

Your going to get some oil in that line and yes if you have it mounted low it Will run to the gauge as it condenses in the line.
Raise the gauge and you wont have that problem.

Your turbo is probably kaput. K03s are known for dying

The higher you rev your motor the more oil will shoot up to your gauge. I had this problem too.

I think someone hit it on the head here... My idle has slowly crept up to 1200+rpm and the turbo is spooling up slower than normal but still peaks at 10-11 psi. Thankfully I have one of the last Dieselicious K03 rebuild kits... so the turbo is coming off on Sunday for a rebuild at school on Monday (tech school = machine shop at my disposal   )
