Title: glow plug relay problem
Post by: silvertdi on August 28, 2008, 08:03:05 pm
I went to start my car this morning and it didn't start. So I broke open my Bentley manual and went through the glow plug relay diagnostic sequence. I immediately determined that the glow plug fuse on the firewall had blown. This was preventing the glow plugs from heating but what caused it to blow? So I continued with the diagnostic and found that there was no voltage between contacts 85 and 50 when the engine was cranking. The Bentley says that there is a break in the wire that leads to the 50 terminal. My guess is that this issue was the cause for the glow plugs coming on while driving, causing the relay to buzz, and the fuse to blow. So I've got to fix it. The question is, where does this wire lead too? I've followed the wire in the manual. It terminates on wire 15. Where does wire 15 go? The manual isn't good about wire terminations. Can anyone help?

My car is an 81.

Thanks burn.  The 50 wire appears to be switched power to release the plunger when the starter is engaged (is that correct)?
