Title: Need info to perform an idi 2.0l i5 swap into my 4000 Q

I have the engine, I have the car. Even have a 1983 4000 td donor car.

Any info would be appreciated. I am starting this project and want to prepare as much in advance as possible before putting the 4000 Quattro under the knife.

The 5 banger and the 4 banger have different bolt patters, I'm not sure if the Audi 5000 tranny will go into the 4000.

  I'd also do my damndest to make sure the 2.0 TD you have runs, there are not many of those around anymore that aren't wrecked one way or another.

  Yes, I have been screwed by a 2.0 TD...

Apparently 4k Quattros were 5-cylinder engines too...? Seems that is what my research told me.

Yes, my 4kq is a 2.2l 5cyl 10v gasser.

The engine was pulled from a running car and looks pristine.

It seems like the 5cyl td's main problems can be cured by a 2.4td T4 headgasket and prelube pump.

Thanks for the heads up though. I'm having second thoughts about all this because of the bad reputation this engine has. It seems like a love/hate thing with this engine.

Oops  :oops:

  I'm not to familiar with audi's.

  I'd keep the motor mounts from the gasser just in case you need them to get the diesel into the 4000. I swapped a 2.0 TD into a quantum syncro wagon and needed the quantum drivers side motor mount to make it work.

i know someone who put a diesel into a gasser.

audi 100 avant into a '94 a6 avant.  pretty much direct swap AFAIK.  the motor & tranny was put over and went from auto to manual.  the rear diff was the same ratio as the manual one, so it was left in.  it's even a locking diff too  :twisted:
