Title: Wiper Arm won't stay put--Any tips
Post by: mtnbob on August 26, 2008, 07:07:40 pm
My driver side wiper arm keeps slipping. I have tried taking it apart and tightening it, tried putting some aluminum foil in there and retightening it, and I'm considering JBweld, but I know that will be a mess if I ever have to take the wiper arm off. Any tips?? 8)

I'm in the same boat, I currently have a bit of soda can as a shim in there instead of aluminum foil, its working pretty well, the next step for me is to use blue loctite on both sides of the soda can shim, if that doesn't work I'll use red loctite

i remember having that problem with my old wiper arm... no problem with the '92 setup though.  aluminum foil won't do much as it is toothed on the inside.  maybe you should look for the wiper arms & nut off of a '92 or older car?  maybe some loctite on the thread will help keep it clamped down too.

I parted out a 92 Jet a couple of years ago. Didn't really see a difference in the hardware. What was different about your '92, JT??

The wiper arms are made from cheap, possibly white metal. There are splines on both the arm and the wiper shaft, clean out the grooves on the shaft , get a hacksaw blade, grind it so it fits in the wiper arm hole and cut some new splines in there. It won't last forever, but should keep you going until you buy new  or good used. Be careful because if you do cheap out ,they will fail at the worse time- during a big downpour.
