trans code is stamped on top on a ear near the top engine to trans bolt closest to the freeze plugs about where the heater core hose comes out to the firewall!
mine is stamped EQ with a few other # aswell

All right........this was in my beloved '82 Jetta. Made it 435,000 miles and was JUST beginning to get slightly weak in reverse. I pulled the pan and switched ATF every 5,000 miles.

Has trans code and date of manufacture: TO 03052
Let me know if you want the trans for any reason. It is waiting to go to heaven.

did your tranny origanlly come from a gasser or a diesel?
the diesel's auto trans have a free wheeling feature when you let off tha gas pedal
so i'm hopping the one i bought is a diesel auto trans with code EQ
this trans did come out of a MK2 i'm hoping someone out there that has a known diesel auto trans can confirm that i got what i wanted!
if you got a diesel auto trans Dakota hang on to it thier getting hard to find!

Yes, this TO code trans was a real live diesel trans that kicked out and went to sleep when you let off the pedal.

Actually, that annoyed the hell out of me and I set the throttle cable to keep it in all the time. I have this habit of saving auto clutches and I slipped it in neutral all the time on my own.

That kick-out is annoying as it kicks out when you really don't want it to and then you get this lag and re-engagement that looks cool on paper but bites in reality.

This Jetta came out of Virginia Beach, Virginia and I acquired it in Dallas when I was interning down there. Only had 52,000 miles on it. I proceeded to go almost 400,000 more. THAT German engine was the longest-lasting engine I ever had. It's still sitting here on the concrete.

But yes, TO is all diesel genetics!

I don't see the governor on that one. Maybe it's behind those hoses?
Every now and then, on a really hot day the vent would apparently stick shut and then reopen with a vengence. Then, it would not do it for 20,000 miles.
I remember the engine bay covered in pink on a 100 degree day in the rolling hills of Kansas !!!!!!!
