Hi ya all :D . Im a newbie and this is my first post. I'm looking to buy my first car a vw golf mk2 GTI 16v or 8v and i was hoping someone could give me some advice because i want to replace the engine for a VW Passat B5 2.5 V6 TDI 180BHP.
Is this possible?
Would it be better if i buy the mk2 GTD or GTI for me to replace it with the TDI? GTD and TDI being diesel would it be better/easier or does it make any differnece being Petrol? Thank you.
Basically  i want a very fast tdi engine with the mk2 gti look. please advise me. thank you

You are correct. the V6 TDI is mounted north/south. They share no parts with the golf.
The only way that you could ever install this engine in a mk2 golf would be to cut the complete front end off the passat and weld it onto the golf.
A more practical, but still very technical, swap would be a PD150 engine and trans from a mk4 golf into the mk2 golf. At least the engine would be mounted in the proper direction, if nothing else.
