Post by: ilikevwdiesel on August 08, 2008, 02:32:33 pm
does anyone know the bosch part number for GTD nozzles for an AAZ motor?

Thanks

"gtd" are the dnosd274 from the SB/RA engines (80hp 1.6TD intercooled)

we should stop calling them "gtd" as that was just a trim level in Europe.. you could have a GTD with a normal JR engine, or a CL with the 80hp one.

i guess it's our human nature to associate with something!

"DNO SD274" is the  Bosch designation for the nozzle used on the SB/RA engine commonly found on GTD-trim vdubs.

The nozzle is inside the injector body, and there are two styles of injector bodies:  those found on the 1.5l/1.6l engines and and those found on the 1.9l ("AAZ") engines.

Here's a picture of a disassembled 1.6-style injector:

The 1.9-style is similar although it has two springs and two calibration shims so it is much more challenging to calibrate:

1.9 injector is at the top, 1.6 at the bottom.

In summary:  if you want GTD-style nozzles in your 1.9l AAZ you'll need to disassemble the injectors, replace the old nozzles with the new DNO SD274 nozzles, reassemble, and then find someone to calibrate your reassembled injectors for the right breaking pressure.

So if i want DNO SD274 in 1.9 injector bodies....   whats the pressure suppose to be?  155 bar or 150 bar..??

Does it also depend on the IP being used?

Giles has the equiptment required to test both opening pressues on 2 spring injectors.

I'd like to know this as well, I'm swapping those nozzles from my single stage injectors to a set of dual stage ones this week.

My opinion would be:  IT DEPENDS !!!

In other words, there's no "right" answer.

"It depends", primarily, on what pump timing you are planning to use, because base engine timing is a primarily a combination of:

1) when does the pump start to inject fuel (the pre-stroke measurement)
2) how much pressure does the pump have to build up before the injectors fire (injector breaking pressure)

Stock 1.6 TD injectors run at 155 bar and seem to work well in conjunction with a static timing of 1.00mm - 1.05mm.   Stock AAZ injectors run at 150 bar and seem to work well with static timing set to 0.90mm - 0.95mm.

So pick your poison:  if you want to run lower breaking pressures then I'd suggest you back off on the static timing a bit as well.

There's other things "it depends" on as well:  are you going for power or mileage ?  Will your engine face cold temperatures ?  Running any fuels besides #2 diesel ??  How worn is your IP ??  Do you wanna mess with the dual spring settings on the 1.9-style injectors or are you going to pretty much take whatever they give ??

Just my loosy-goosey perspective !!

Nothing loosey-goosey about it.  I'd prefer mileage over power, the Giles pump gives me more power than my clutch can handle.

Higher break pressure = better atomization = better mileage?
