I noticed yesterday that the injector that sits behind the LDA is leaking. I have a spare and decided to change it out. The problem is that I cannot get the pump to move enough to get my socket on the injector. I loosened all of the injector lines and the pump mounting bolts. The pump would only rotate about an inch. I'm hoping that someone can enlighten me with a different tool that they have used or procedure that I'm not thinking about (short of removing the pump). Thanks for your help.

bend a 1 1/16 wrench almost flat and you can get in there and undo it. A 27 mm wrench will work as well but it is harder to find

I've ground off the top edge of my 27mm socket so that it fits in behind the LDA... just !

why not remove the top of the pump?
easy to do the governor mod while at it. :lol:

I moved the timing belt one tooth on the IP so the pump is tilted further away from the engine. Now there is lots of room to remove the injector and change glow plugs.

Thanks for the ideas. I will try bending the wrench first since my 27mm socket would need a lot of grinding. I tried to avoid all of this by replacing the injectors and glow plugs while the pump was off for a Giles rebuild. The rebuilt injectors turned out to be crap.

injectors were most likely not properly lapped.. :(

The injectors came from vwdieselparts if I'm remembering correctly. When I replaced them, the car sounded bad. I researched here on the website and I believe it's called "nailing". Took my 300,000 mile injectors to the local diesel parts store and had them tested. Break pressures and spray patterns were good so I put the three easy to replace injectors back on. The nailing problem was cured so I never replaced the one behind the LDA. I guess I'm heading to Sears tonight to look for a cheap 1 1/16" or 27mm wrench to bend.

Irrelevant I know, but 27mm injector socket also fits the nut on the oil cooler. 8)
