Title: VERY cheap Volvo 245 Diesel in Vancouver area
Post by: jackbombay on May 09, 2005, 06:29:19 pm
This is likley to go to a guy in on Vancouver island, but that seems like it might fall through and I am not able to act on this right now, it will go to a wrecker soon if it does not get sold, it is in good shape and only has 212K kilometers on it, here are some pics

So it does not start right now, from wht I've heard it sounds like a timing issue, the guy will let it go cheap ($100), he is 16 and cannot work on it, his folks want it gone NOW, it will go to the wrecker supposedley in a couple days if it does not get sold before then.

well, i hate to say it, but turns out the scrap yards the only place for my 84 wagon diesel. No one locally wants it, and i cant have more than 1 volvo on the driveway says the 'rents. (only 16) Car has somewhat sentimental value to it, otherwise I could care less.

tomarrow i call the free scrap removal...
(they're payin me 40-60 bucks for it!)

Problems:
Starts RARELY
Ran it on the highway and it topped out at 80km/h (OD just started to slow it down)
temp gauge was at 3/4 most of the time
Cant think of any others right now

it smoked a tiny bit blue when it was cold, and ran (not thick) black when idle and smoke a sh!t load black when under load, and full load.

Quite sure it is bad timing.

Post up if you can deal with this this week, but it seems like there is a reasonable chance it will go to the other guy so don't get your hopes up to far.

I sent off info to a VW diesel head on Vancouver Island, but... I do have a son in Bellingham, who could nab it.

Gonna need some contact numbers...

As I said it looks like another guy (from vic coincidentally) is going to get it on thursday... assuming he can get his hands on a dial gauge setup and use it correctly. As soon as I find out either way I will let you know.

Everytime I see thoes pics it just kills me that I don't have time/space to deal with this right now

I'd like to, but here is the situation.

I originally said I'll come get it for $100, but unfortunatly I am unable to. At this point there was guy "second in line" So he has first dibs now so to speak, but I know the car is worth way more than $100. So, do I tell the current owner that "there are a few guys that are quite interested and you could probably get more than $100" which would screw the guy currently interested (although he is not a Diesel head) but would help the current owner in the form of more money. It is either screw the hopefully soon to be owner or do nothing and the current owner gets screwed, although he has resigned himself to recieving $100 or so for the car already anyway. The hopefully soon to be owner has (I think) tracked down a dial indicator and adaptor so he can deal with timing once he shows up...

  What would you do?

I posted it here so if the current guy does not/can get it going on thursday someone here could snag it and prevent it going to a wrecker.

So the interested party is not going to try and pick it up so it looks like you have the first crack at it, I sent the current owner a PM to get contact info, or    if you are really anxious you can sign up at turbobricks.com and send 86_740_ti a PM about it.
