Title: diesel tranny vs gasser
Post by: fillmore on May 09, 2005, 06:16:03 pm
i was wondering how much of a difference there is in the gear ratios between a A2 diesel and gaser transmission. i know mine was replaced at some point but i dont think that the guy who had it before me took the time to find another diesel tranny and just went with a gas one. the reason that i ask this question is that i recently got a 87 for my mom and it has way more power than my 89 and i just put new rings in a couple of weeks ago too :?

Depends on which particular transmissions you are comparing. Look on the bottom of the bell housing. There will be a 2 or 3 letter code followed by a 5 digit number. The first letters/number are the code. The 5 digit number is a build date. If you post the complete code from yours, I can tell you more about it.

trannies make a lot of difference, depends on your needs and general usage of car as to what is best

I really like a 9a with a .75 5th,   but...  I generally use ACN or ASF,  all are gas trannies.  The ACH is the best 'general' diesel tranny (AGS is good too)  It's nice to have so many choices  :?
