So I tried opening my trunk the other day in my 96 Jetta GL and the key wouldn't turn. After a little lube I was able to get it to turn but still not open.
I thought that well maybe it will work with the trunk release in the car. But having just bought it I had no clue where it was. So after searching for a while I've come to the conclusion that it appears there isn't one in the car. Am I missing it somewhere?
The owners manual says its below the lid for the lockable storage compartment in the center counsel. But I have no lockable storage compartment in the counsel.

check the glovebox

Negative on the glove box.
Is there a way to open it from inside if i fold down the seat?

what I would do is go the the junkyard and have a look at a working trunk and see what can be done. Itès always free to look.

Fixed it Climbed in and ripped the carpet off the back and figured out how it worked. Once opening i realized the claw that the cylinder pushes down on to open it kept slipping off.
After adjusting it I got it to work.

It's not free here where I'm at. I have to pay two bucks to get into a junk yard to figure something out. I usally slide something up a sleeve for my two bucks.
