Title: Who is this Prothe fellow?
Post by: rabbitpower on June 06, 2008, 10:14:58 am
I have read a few posts mentioning this person ( Place?) and decided to take a look. The prices are redicuolously low on some things . Whom here has dealt with them and what are the experiences?

Well... without starting everything all over again, http://vwdiesel.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=14291 read that. Some good experiences, some bad. Your choice, your dime.

It's awful silly, the guy came here to share experiences and build cars and a few people decided to throw him under the bus. Notice not once did or does he come out swinging yet people keep poking at him.

A few of us need to take a look in the mirror.

EVERY experience I have had with Prothe has been good.
I've bought quite a few different items from him and had good experiences with every item.
My car is still on the road, 6700 miles and counting.

Zukgod out.

LOL!

I like to come here to relax and read people's stories, but when it gets personal, I take a break...

I applaud you for that Pete.

Wow. I didn't intend to stir the poo. I read the entire thread and there is alot of stuff I agree with and disagree with. Here in Michigan we have " The Parts Place". Fortunatley they have some really good oem stuff. Unfortunatley thier staff seems to have a hard time getting the correct parts in the box and shipped out to me. Out of 5 orders 2 might be right. I have had good experiences with them too though, but when my car is on the line I usually go somewhere I can trust. Arizonaautohaus has been good to me, never made a mistake, always good quality, prices are pretty fair, stock is a little low on the hard to find stuff.

I've had words with Autohaus over two previous issues, one of which still hasn't been corrected. Irritating, but two issues out of over a hundred parts ordered and shipped isn't enough for me to quit patronizing their business.

But as to the unresolved issue, if you order a water pump from them and it says it's a cast impeller, call and make sure. Get them to open your box before they ship it.

I got a stamped steel, and it really twisted my bolts.

Didn't Vw go to the plastic impeller on the newer gas motors?

Yes they did.. tdi too, in fact everything newer, vw & audi has a plastic impeller on the pump. It's a huge flaw. I've fixed at least 50 of these in my shop, a handful of which required head gaskets and straightening because of overheating.

Graf and Hepu make replacement pumps with metal impellers to replace the factory mistake. I change water pumps on anything newer with the timing belt to eliminate the weakest link.  It's a big problem in new beetles because they don't have temp gauges, just the idiot light.

I always change water pumps on the 2.5TDI when I do the belts, 9 times out of 10 there is either play in the bearings or they grumble.
Those are cast impeelors too.
