Post by: the caveman on May 23, 2008, 01:30:11 pm
Anybody know where i can find a kit to adjust the non hydralic heads?
I have seen the 2 tools but can i buy a set of shims or would i have to go to the dealer to buy each one individually? I didn't care before i now 2 vehicles in the shop which need an adjustment.

I've gotten individual shims from napa, they costed like 2-3 bucks a piece then they had to back order three 3.65mm and those three ended up costing 16 bucks a PIECE!! And they were the ones I needed real bad. :x. You can find 'em all over the internet for cheap.

I just picked me up a set of these
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Kd-Tools-VW-Valve-Adjustment-Set-2814-WH_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247QQcategoryZ43998QQihZ004QQitemZ140231765849QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V

The guy ships fast and can't beat the price really.

As for shims autohausaz sells them from like a 1.30$ to 2.00$ US a shim.

I've heard you can buy a set of shims from certain people (I dont remember who was selling them) but its costly. I added all the shims up 4 each and its like 170$ US through autohaus.

TT has a kit with an assortment of shims.  I bought this set a couple of years ago, and have not had to buy any other ones yet.

I have some a bunch of extra shims from my head rebuild. Ordered a bunch from Autohaus because I didn't know what sizes I needed. Let me know if anybody needs some and I will measure them and see.

I was looking at TT's site and 150 for the kit of 120 shims. If you got to autohausaz and add all the ones in the kit up it comes pretty close to the same price. Except you pay shipping at TT and not at autohaus. I dono about going to Canada though...
