Title: 1982 Rabbit 1.6 N/A to Turbo
Post by: Motoman4000 on May 16, 2008, 07:37:28 am
So, I am in need of some help here. I just bought my 1982 rabbit diesel, replaced the head gasket and timing belt, and a few other things, but now I am in the market for more power. I have heard of a few guys just taking the whole turbo/manifolds from a 1.6, and just bolting them on. Would this work? also, i had dabbled with the thought of the turbo/manifolds from a 1999 1.9 tdi. I am wondering if the bolt pattern for the tdi manifolds are the same, so that they will bolt right on to my head. If anybody could help, it would be greatly appreciated. And also, if anybody knows of a place in Vancouver BC, where I could find a used engine with turbo/manifolds, That would help...

1.9/TDI has different shaped ports, but same bolt pattern. There are lots of threads on this subject. Do a search and all your questions will be answered, even the ones you haven't thought of yet, but will.

thanks, so what you're saying, is that I could bolt the manifolds/turbo on to my 1.6 from a 1.9 tdi? and it will work? I'm guessing i would also have to rig up the EGR, or something?

I'm running an exhaust manifold from a ALH tdi.  The turbine housing and manifold are kind of one, so that's why I'm using it.
