Title: 1.6 boost pin in 1.9
Post by: flash319 on May 15, 2008, 10:22:48 am
I have an AAZ.

I have read through the "make your 1.9 faster" thread a few times and think I will do most of what is in there.  I was just wondering if I just change the boost pin to a 1.6 pin without changing anything else from stock (still have the clip on the max screw, max boost is still at 10-12 psi, K03) will I see any difference?
Should I add more fuel first like the thread says or should I change the pin first and see how I like it.  I don't want a ton of smoke.

And should I adjust my peak boost last when doing any modifications?
I want low end grunt because the engine is in a Toyota truck but I still need to rev it out to 3 grand on the hiway.

Yes, the pin will allow more fuel with added boost, something the stock pin doesn't do.

1,6 pin is 11mm and 1,9 is 12mm. You could also grind the original pin to get the fueling you want/need

I thought they were a direct swap???

The pins are a direct swap. Use the 1.6 spring as well though.
One thing I am uncertain of is if you should keep the plastic bushing at the top of the 1.6 pin or not. I took mine off and it seems to run fine. Maybe someone can clear this up?

1,6 pin will fit to 1,9 pump, but not otherwise. Does your 1,9 pump have starwheel under spring? My pump didnīt have. Throw the plastic bushing away, that is not needed :)

so some of the 1.9 pumps have no starwheel to adjust the tension on the boost pin?  interesting.  so the 1.6 boost pin and spring are the way to go unless you want to grind your own 1.9 pin and keep the 1.9 spring?
