Title: Hydraulic and mechanical cam interchangability
Post by: Dakotakid on May 10, 2008, 10:19:34 am
I read an earlier post which discussed this topic, but there did not seem to be a definitive answer.
Can I run a solid lifter camshaft in a hydro head? Are there any negative consequences?

There is lots of banter about this and everyone says something different.  I put an 82 Mechanical Cam in an 86 Hydraulic Head engine that I completely rebuilt and it worked and ran fine.  If fact after I started it up I completely forgot about it.

I *thought* I read that someone posted the innerbase circle was larger on the mechanical cam and caused the valves to hang open... but I guess not if you`ve done it.
