Title: TD Pump question
Post by: rabbitpower on May 10, 2008, 08:32:31 am
I have an 86 TD 1.6. I also have a 92 NA engine that has a pump that looks very similar. Can parts be swapped between these pumps? What are the major differences. Great site by the way!

What parts do you want to swap and why?

They are very similar but very different at the same time.

I wanted to know in case the pump on the TD dies. That and i would like to experiment a little. I have only had an IP apart a few times and never knew you could modify them. I also noticed that the 92 cyl head has the same part number as the 86 TD. I had heard somewhere that Vw just canned the TD speacialties ( Coated valves and tougher alloy) in favor of just making the NA and TD heads the same after a certain year. Is this true?
