whats the deal on these things? mine is leaking all over an i wanted to just pop a new one in. so hooked up with a buddy an he gave me one off an 80 NA 1.6. i have an 81 NA 1.6 and they are totally different.
are these interchangable for the most part?
the difference is mine has this huge diaphram looking deal hangin off the side with two hoses (one from the crank case, other to the booster). the one i got is just the piece, with a hole on the top (which appears to have a gromet type thing that goes into it)

What do you mean by leaking? Like, leaking air and so you get no boost, or leaking fluid all over the place?
If it's leaking fluid, and you find yourself topping off the brake fluid quite often, then chances are your master cyl is leaking into the brake booster, and your vacuum pump is sucking fluid into it, and consequently your crankcase: not a good thing.
If it's just low on vacuum, you can rebuild it with a kit that costs like $10-15. It's pretty easy to do, and the details are outlined in the Bentley manual.
I'm not familiar with the early vacuum pumps. But they should fit the same. You'll just have to plug the hole on the crankcase.

its leaking fluid, but its not brake fluid, ive never had to top the brake fluid an the level is exactly where it was when i did the brakes. it also leaks at the pump deal on the block (at the base).
no pressure, its like the car has non-power brakes.
is it a good idea to block off the crankcase? i know on my 16v it was pissed at me when i didnt have enough ventilation. :lol: should i perhaps run it to a catch can setup?

You can block it off, depending on your engines health it may or may not be a concern.
The later style with only one hose will work just fine.

so its the later diesels that had the two hose setup?
would the plate from a gasser fit that spot on the block? i have a few of those, the hole pattern looks close
ive been having a bit of blue smoke on accel so its looking like the ol 1.6 needs a refresh...of course i just did a headgasket a few months ago too :evil:

Does anyone know what year the single hose vac. pumps came on??

I'm not sure what year the single hose was introduced but it is the later design. The green block above would use the singe hose. Yes a gasser block of plate will (should anyways) fit.
