Whats the difference between a Garett T3 and a KKK k24?
Which one is better?
Both of them originally came with the 1.6TD in MKIIs and both the turbos put of the same horsepower and both have same size... so which is better, any pros and cons of the two?
-
I dont have first hand experience....but I have heard that the T3 is a little better.....I dont know the specifics!
-
A con of the k24 is that the wastegate may seize up.
-
t3 is bigger especially on the exhaust side, and like its been said, the k24 likes to seize up
-
the boys say here that the k24 spools better but the T3 is a little more robust!
i'm runnin a K24 at 21PSI. so far no problems ? knock on wood

hmm seen!!
so how can i tell if the wastegate on the K-24 has seized up?? and whats the fix?
-
Guys!!
anyonee??
-
and whats the fix?
Why install a T3, of course. Seriously, I've never heard of a wastegate seizing on a diesel, but tha discussion points are all true. The T3 makes a little better power on the top end.
-
the t3 will wont make full boost till 3K rpm
-
Which is better... Pepsi or Coke ??
Both turbos work fine. Both are slower to develop boost than their smaller cousins like the K14 but both have a bit more top-end omph in exchange.
VW treated them pretty much interchangeably and in my opinion so can you... find a good one, install it, and move on to other concerns !!

That you all for the replies!
Yeha Vince is right, MkII drivers always have other bigger concerns to worry about!

I hope your not using mine as a way of gauging that. It has a leak before the turbo in the exhaust somewhere.
-
Look up the a/r of both and the trims.
-
Whats a/r how do i find that out and whats trim?
-
I am not a turbo guru, but these guys are :) Read on.

You can also go to the faq section and there are some links to turbo maps.

Your boost would be controlled by the check valve instead of the wastegate. Boost would be a little higher so it's not that bad of a thing. Mine was seized but I didn't find this out until I rebuilt the turbo. The shaft was seized tight. So tight I ended up snapping the valve stem.

By check valve u mean the blow off in the intake manifold?? that would give me a wicked sound.. Right??
