Title: Looking to borrow or buy dial gauge and adaptor in Vancouver
Post by: neimis on April 13, 2008, 07:25:02 pm
I need to check the pump timing, engine is running too rough (clatter) and with too much white and black smoke. Does anyone have a dial gauge indicator and adaptor they would be willing to loan? I'm in Vancouver (North Van, actually).

I tried looking for one to buy around here but came up empty, the one at North Shore AutoParts can't be adapted to fit...

I looked online and e-bay, but with the border hassles and shipping time, it's not too attractive.

Any suggestions on where to find one? I'd like to get this attended to as soon as I can, don't want to damage anything with advanced timing
Thanks for any help

I got a set from the guy at emiata.com for about $70 or so.  This is probably your best bet, then you can check anytime you want. cheers Dan

I'm in the same boat.  I just ordered a kit from a guy in germany.  Came out to 100.00 with shipping.  I don't know how long it will take to get here, but I need to use one pretty darn quick.

I've got one you can borrow for a deposit, or you can check your timing in my carport if you want, I've got the tools.  PM for contact info.

those german kits are awesome! the cam lock plate is bang on.  you'll even need to tap it in because its so tight (just the way it should be  )  even the pump lock!... unfortunately i lost mine  :x  i got mine from ebay... where did you manage to find yours?

Same place you did, e-bay.

I need to get my golf running with the old motor.  My truck has died and I need another car for work.  My tranny and new clutch kit are in route, but my franken head is still a week or two away from being done at Daves shop.  I need to fire up the old beast that has been sitting for a year and get her to run for another few weeks.  I am sure the timing is off, and I need new injectors, these are original 1985 units.  Compression is low and there is blowby, but I think she will run.  It's a mech head so I will need to check valve clearance as well, havent done it in like 50k.
