Post by: dillenger1 on April 04, 2008, 10:09:47 pm
I have a 86 hydro head from a 1.6 na.Im running a turbo now and was wondering about the valves.Ive heard that the hydro. heads are same spec as turbo after 86...."including exhaust valves?"If so would the valves i have in there be any ok to use if i lapp them?i was wondering about all the heat/cooling processes theyve undergone over the years.will this weaken the metals???

as I recall the turbo motors have sodium filled valve stems in the exhaust valves. It would probably be advantageous to have them but if you do not it isn't the end of the world. They are pretty expensive and there are two styles of valve spring retainers so if you swap them in make sure you have the correct type of retainer.

They changed to sodium filled valves to aid cooling. Without it, there is a higher risk of the valve cracking.
