Title: Thinking of buying a BMW 525tds
Post by: TDIMeister on March 28, 2008, 10:17:40 am
Hi guys,

I have my eyes on a sweet 1994 BMW 525tds Touring.  The only catch is that the seller says it has a leak in the injection pump.  Anyone knows where I can buy an OE replacement or upgrade?  I want to buy a pump outright to have the leaking one rebuilt and possibly upgraded and kept as a spare.  I've sent an inquiry to DSS in France.

The cost of the pump will decide if I take the plunge to buy the car.  I'll kee you guys posted how it turns out. .. :)

The car sold before I got to it.  Oh well.  The search continues.

Those 199x 2.5 TDS engines usually have water pump issues. An older pump propeller will not pump as it should and the result is a ruffled head.

A mechanic told me that the problem was related with the OEM water pump materials. The original pump propeller was made in plastic (I believe) and it was later replaced by a metallic one.

Get that fixed if necessary and you'll have TDS for ages. It's a wonderful engine.

Bump.

Although not a Diesel, I did buy a car, and I'm staying within the VW Group fold: http://tinyurl.com/cceket

WOW!!!  Holy crap what a great car!!!  Screw the BMW.  ;)  That car looks fantastic, and it's a 6-speed to boot!  I feel the Audi V-8 is the best V8 ever made.  Yes, better than the Chevy 350.

Jealous, indeed.  What are your plans with it?

As mentioned in the thread, it will be sent to Canada at the end of June and sold.  I paid 5000 EUR for it plus 1200 EUR to get it TÜV'ed.
