My 90mm inner axle stubs are ridged and hard to seal, so I think I'll swap to newer 100mm axles. From what I understand, I need inner axle stub, spindles, carriers and axles from a 16V Scirocco. Is that all I need?
-
Sounds like you got it covered. The only unknown is weather or not you will need spindles and carriers. I have yet to find any definitive evidence that the outer splines on a 100mm axle are different from a 90mm axle. I'd like to know that, though, when I do my TDI swap, I plan on using 16v Scirocco axles to mate with the 02J tranny flanges, but I have no idea what to do on the wheel side. :P

can't you just keep the 90mm axle shafts on the outer?
-
I didnt think the outer part was any differant..?
I swaped over some mk3 knuckles on my mk2 and the outer is the same.
I pressed in new bearings but reused the splined part fropm the mk3, was under the impression all mk3's had the 100mm axles.
Anywho, I know have 11" rotors and dual piston Audi calipers with mk3 knuckles on my mk2

Just a small improvement there :o .

I'm hoping the Mk3 knuckles will work on the Mk1's as well. ;) (that's my plan anyway)

ok speaking of 90mm vs. 100
i wanna lower my front on my rabbit, and im runnin a 80% peloquin
in order to lower it,im told to convert to 100mm cv's
cant i just swap the inner joints+the trans. flanges to 100mm,and use my"old" driveshafts and orig outer joint???
-
Sorry, folks, but this thread is for Mk 1 only.

Yup, I think so.

I thought so too, but was told the 100mm inner flanges have a different offset than the 90mm ones. Is this really true???

What do you mean by offset?
I suppose if you had 2 axles one 90mm and one 100mm you could compair if no one knows for sure.

It wasn't the axle itself, but the transmission flange. When we put the 100mm flange on, the 90mm axle was too long.

Any authoritative responses? I need help here.
-
the 100mm axles i bought fit into my mk2 spindles. only problem is that they are about 2 inches too long...
-
I dont have a 100mm flange to compair but if they are the same axles the flange can't be different depths.
There isn't enough slip on the axle to allow for much difference either way.

2"? Holly mackerel!!
That should be very obvious on the flange..
Swap the new end that bolts to the trans to your old axles. ?
-
I THINK the cure is 16v Scirocco axles.

instead i swapped 90mm tranny flange on the tranny... problem solved

the 100mm inner cv joints from A3 series will fit the splines of an A1 drive shaft however, the 100mm inner cv joint is thicker than the 90mm inner cv joint so to make it fit the difference in thickness needs to be machined off the shoulder on the drive shaft. Otherwise the cv joint cant slide far enough along the splines to fit the circlip

Acually I was thinking of going the other way, 90 mm trans flanges instead of 100 mm's. Its not like the dumb bunny has a whole lot of guts or anything. :P
-
im running 90mm axles in my rabbit. i took the rabbit axles, took the inner cv's off, put some 100mm CV's on my axles and called it good. the only reason my axles are a tight fit is because they are axles from a 4 speed car, and the 4 speed trans is narrower in the final drive section, by almost a whole inch. i have to have my engine loose in the mounts to put the axles in. or have the ball joints pulled and swing the hub and strut out of the way.
