Title: T15/22 hybrid for m-TDI
Post by: ChopSauce on March 15, 2008, 01:28:31 am
Hi,

I could find a T15/T22 hybrid turbo for sale in France but its price is close to 1200 euros - that is something around 1800 USD ... and the seller does not even mentions if it is brand new or rebuilt one.

Is this kind of turbo something of a DIY puzzle or something one can buy in the US - or in Canada ?

Any comments ?

My opinion is that depending on which part is the 15 and which the 22, it is either going to be slow spooling for a VNT (22 comp, 15 turb) or a waste that will probably overspool (15 comp, 22 turb). I could be wrong, but that's how I see it. If you really want one, just buy a used 22 and a used 15 and put them together. I have a 25/15 which I put together for the hell of it because I had the parts, but the turbine was the damaged 25 turbine which I turned down to fit the 15 housing. I doubt it will ever see my engine, but may some day become a turbine engine. And yes, it was a DIY puzzle. They have no need to make something like that.

Oh, well! It does not seem to be worthy so - need I mention this turbo should be a fixed geometry & no VNT one?

One thing I did not understood : need the T22 turbine be machined to fit ?
(should have written "bolt it yourself" instead...)

Oh, a little different if it's fixed. Probably still worth it to make your own though.
