Title: samuria conversion , and others .....
Post by: burnt_servo on March 09, 2008, 11:33:53 am
in the next few months i'm going to be building a engine for my  brother for his samuria .

how many other guys here have done , or are doing the same thing ( ie samuria conversion ) .

anyone one else slip a vw diesel into a 4x4 besides the samuria ?

been thinking lately about doing a m-tdi for my bronco 2 .

I have been fiddling around the edges with this for the last year or so.

I bought another soft top samurai with the engine swapped in already, found the motor had issues pulled it out put the stock gasser back in and shoved the carcas out the door.

I am now in the process of rebuilding the motor to put it in my tintop.

I just need to commit the funds to get this done. There usually been some reason or another over the past four years I haven't been able to do so....

would you happen to have a build thread ?

i'm interested how you did the flywheel / presure plate .
what tranny did you use ?
i'm thinking in terms of my bronco2  .... the samuria should be easy

Not a thread on here, but this (http://www.66rover.com/mods/mods.html) details from the swap, all the way up to the rebuild as a M-TDI. I used the Toyota flywheel and pressure plate with a 9" Rover clutch disc. I had to machine the crank for a larger pilot bearing.

seems a lot of people have done this samurai chassis/vw idi swap. is there any info online about this or is there a company making adapters/components to make this swap possible? im very interested in how the drivetrain components fit together.

See the http://vwdiesel.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=13371 Dr Diesel is selling his Acme adapter for less than you can buy it for from them. Acme Adapters also sells flywheels that are already modified I believe.
